Meet April Prescott, BEd, 200 Hour YTT, Mindfulness Educator, Trauma Informed Practitioner
April began her yoga journey 15 years ago as a way to recover from an injury and return to the rugby field. Since then, she has explored various types of yoga classes and took the leap to becoming a 200 Hour YTT certified teacher. April completed her yoga training through Santosha Yoga Institutde in Bali, Indonesia. As she has experienced the benefits that yoga brought to her athletic career, she wants to bring these benefits to other athletes. April is a rugby athlete with 20 years devoted to the sport, both on the field as a player and on the sidelines as a coach. She found her love for rugby while playing high school and senior women's at 15 years old. Since then she has never looked back, playing at the varsity level for the University of Alberta which garnered her the Rookie of the Year award. She has also played at the provincial level for Newfoundland as well as served as Team Manager for the U17 women for Rugby Alberta. April represented the city of Edmonton on the U23 Representative team as well. She has recently added coaching and player development to her rugby resume. April has played club rugby for 20 years, with many seasons at Captain. She has also participated on the Board of Executives for the Edmonton Clansmen Rugby Club and as a coach for U18 Girls and for the Winter Junior Academy, focusing on functional movement and mindfulness in sport. Her own experience as a high-level athlete allows her to connect with athletes on their level.
April is also an equestrian, riding and competing with her horses for over 25 years. In addition to riding horses, April enjoys recreational mountain and road biking.
April is a mindfulness educator focusing on bringing mental toughness to the field. By utilizing elements like meditation, visioning and awareness, April can help an athlete reach their potential and maintain their performance.
April's goal is to bring the elements of a well-rounded yoga practice, including meditation, mindfulness and body awareness, to the playing field.
